Thaxton vs Evans

Wednesday December 18th 2002 saw the W.B.O and I.B.F. Intercontinental light-welterweight champion, ex-Sprowston student Jon Thaxton visiting the school to raise money for the VIth form charity week. Jon took on all-comers and was a real gentleman and a show-man. What follows may well be inaccurate in places, for the memory dims with time...

Pressure

The mild mannered Dr Evans was put under HUGE pressure, firstly by the crowd, then by the cat-calls of the World Champion to prove his stuff and demonstrate his manhood. The pacifist doc was reluctant to get involved until the Champ picked on the wonderful organiser.

Enough was enough!

Now this was not on. The good doctor decided that enough was enough. The gauntlet was down and a challenge was issued. The good doctor hastily remembered the Queensbury rules and donned the gloves. The choice brown, green and yellow tie was removed for the bout. The Doc and the Champ squared up. In the picture below, taken at the commencement of the fight, the fear is clearly evident in the World Champion's eyes.

Things turn nasty

There was no referee present, and the Queensbury rules were quickly forgotten. A whole pile of below-the-belt shots were piling in from the Champ (strangely, some watchers were actually unable to remember the Champ landing ANY punches WHATSOEVER, such perhaps was the skill and dexterity of the Doc?) When the biting and kicking began, the Doc realised that his very life was at stake. This wasn't just a demonstartion bout for charity but a fight to the death. The Doc had no option but to use a western wrestling technique that he had observed that previous evening on the World Wrestling Federation rumble on the TV.

The shocking end

Further deadly moves were attempted by the Champ, and it was only the sheer speed and shocking intellect of the Doc that allowed him to survive. Just as the Champ was about to deliver a deadly blow, the Doc used a Mega-Wallop Bruce Lee Power punch that SHOCKINGLY removed the World Champion's head from his shoulders. Never will such intimidation of school pupils be allowed to happen again.

Or maybe...

...it didn't quite go that way, and it ended a bit more like this
