In almost any area where you might have undertaken fieldwork, it is possible to find an example of succession. The sand dunes found in many areas round our coasts provide a particularly good example. The diagram below summarises the process of succession in sand dunes from the initial colonisation of bare sand to the establishment of a climax community.
